Restaurant Jörd
Tasting menu/small plates restaurant in Bishop Auckland

Following my appearance on Masterchef UK in 2021, the dream was always to open a restaurant.

After the show, the effects of Covid were being felt across the hospitality industry and it became clear that taking on a restaurant during such uncertain times was a massive risk. I decided to jump into the world of private cheffing so that I could begin to build a reputation without the risk of crippling overheads and potential further lockdowns.

Fast-forward 2 years, and I have been presented with an opportunity to take on a project in my home town of Bishop Auckland as part of an exciting new development on Newgate Street.

Jörd (pronounced ‘you-rd’) is the old Norse goddess of the Earth and literally translates to ‘land’ or ‘soil’ in Scandinavian languages. The name has been chosen to highlight the connection between my cooking style and the land around the restaurant, using ingredients that are foraged and locally grown. There’s a personal touch to the name too, but I’m going to keep you guessing on that for now!

Jörd will offer a relaxed yet refined tasting menu in the evening, and a small plates offering during the day, along with great wines and cocktails.

I am looking forward to bringing my passion for locally sourced and foraged produce to the area and can't wait to see you there.
